More information about Neigepearl puppies

We focus on quality not quantity, and for the ultimate aim of improving the breed. We place equal priorities on health, temperament, conformation and type and are very passionate about these issues in general.

Description: Description: 0Img_133111pWe handle and raise our puppies with lots of love and care inside our home. From the time puppies are born, we carry out Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), which is scientifically proven to be a great way to raise confident and active puppies. ENS has many health benefits and sets a wonderful foundation for the trainability of the puppy and we have found it very successful.  We not only provide the right genetics, but provide the right environment enables them to develop to their highest potential. Our puppies are subjected to everyday noises such as vacuums, television, music, kitchen noises etc, and receive regular visits from friends with children. To understand more about how puppies develop, please read the Critical Stages of Canine Development.

We spend lots of time with them, watching them grow and develop. We observe the pack hierarchy and have seen how their confidence levels can sometimes change when the puppies are exposed to new environments, so we take them into different rooms and environments. We are always watching their reactions to their surroundings, loud noises, their recovery times, how interactive they are with people and their littermates, how they behave when carried or restrained etc. It has been a keen interest of ours over the years, and as a result we have gained a good amount of experience in evaluating temperament and helping people choose the best puppy for their experience level and lifestyle. For example, we wouldn’t recommend a dominant, headstrong and highly energetic pup for a family with young children, who are not experienced with working dogs. The evaluations we make in relation to matching puppies’ temperaments to people and their lifestyles, seem to strongly fall in line with Volhard’s Puppy Aptitude Test, test results, which are done at week 7. These evaluations seem to carry forward quite accurately, given the dog is provided with the right training and leadership by the owner. We find our puppy buyers are extraordinarily happy with their choice of puppy, with the guidance we provide.

We raise puppies indoors for about 4 weeks, before transferring them outdoors where they can play around in our safe and secure puppy yard. Our puppy yard is a large, fully turfed area under the shade of a big tree, a large cabin/cubby house, obstacles for mental development, toys, sand pit and wading pool. It is thoroughly cleaned twice daily with a high pressure gurney. Living in suburbia, our puppies are safely exposed to many different kinds of noises, trains, trucks, cars, and other loud noises, preparing them for the world and building their confidence.

We have mutually rewarding relationships with our puppy co-owners, where the dogs are beloved pets first and foremost. We help train and promote their dog, whilst working together to manage the next generation of Neigepearl dogs.

When puppies have been health and temperament tested between 12-18 months old, we choose the best pup/s to go forward in our breeding program and give permission for the rest of litter to be neutered. That way, we know that none of them can be accidentally or deliberately bred and the bloodlines we have poured so much work into cannot end up in damaging places, such as a backyard breeder or puppy mill. Only the best dogs from a litter are used to breed forward the next generation at Neigepearl.

We base our selections on what dogs can be bred around health, temperament, genetics, conformation, type and how they all relate to the Breed Standard and our goals for breed improvement.  We feel that this is the best way for ALL dogs to get the best quality of life and to responsibly manage our passion and dedication to the breed.

We carefully manage a reasonably-sized breeding program, working with our co-owners and have done so this way since 2003, and therefore do not need multiple dogs and keep them in kennels.  We have imported frozen semen since 2003 from Europe and America, and are a part of the international breeding program. The 2 dogs we have at home, Karo and his great grandson, Mojo. They are our pets and we do all sort of activities and dog sports with them. Our dogs are part of our family and treated as such, being indoors with us at night and mostly outdoors during the day.

In addition to providing the standard things a breeder should, such as general health guarantees, support & advice, we also guarantee ALL our puppies against hereditary disease, including crippling hip and elbow dysplasia. We have the knowledge and confidence in our breeding program to be able to provide this guarantee to you in writing. We have spent a lot of money ensuring our guarantees and puppy contracts are legally binding as we put the breed and the welfare of the dogs as our number one priority.

We require ALL our puppies to have their hips & elbows x-rayed and graded between 12-18 months to determine the quality of their hips/elbows, not only for your own piece of mind, but  also for the integrity of our breeding program and so we know the health of the dogs we are producing. Due to this commitment we have taken on, we are the number one breeder producing the best hip and elbow scores in Australia. We hope more breeders follow suit and can evaluate the health in their breeding programs this way for the benefit of the dogs and the breed as a whole. Evaluating our breeding dogs and improving each generation as we go, has resulted in significant reductions in the incidence of hip dysplasia, and excellent hip and elbow scores. We do a lot of research into the lines we use and are proud of the outstanding health in the lines we have and the lines we use!

A good hip/elbow score means you can rest assured that your dog will not suffer any debilitating problems such as hip or elbow dysplasia throughout its life. In the case that a puppy is diagnosed with a hereditary disease that renders the dog in pain, (not that this has ever occurred), we stand by our written guarantee in regard to compensating for this financially or offering a replacement puppy.

We track the health in the blood lines we use, so we breed with the knowledge in what we are producing and have the ability to produce. We aim to produce the very best quality White Shepherds possible, using our excellent foundation lines and the best bloodlines from around the world. All our puppies are also certified clear of MDR1 by parentage since we have not used any MDR1 carriers in our breeding program.

We have been in the breed exclusively for well over a decade, which is longer than most other White Shepherd breeders in Australia. We use our best local bloodlines and imported bloodlines and will only breed to improve the breed for the next generation. We are very serious about breed improvement, using some of the world’s best blood lines with no expense spared in producing the best quality pups possible. We spend a lot of time researching blood lines and aiming to use the very best the world has to offer. We also use the benefits of DNA testing, clearing our blood lines of certain hereditary diseases.

Be aware that many breeders will state that they breed healthy dogs, but it’s rare that any of them will back it up with written guarantees. Also, you will not find our bloodlines being used by backyard breeders or puppy mills. We are extremely careful where we place our puppies and care enough about the breed to make sure this never happens.  We have seen too many sad things happen to dogs and the breed because of irresponsible breeding, hence why we are determined to protect our puppies. The dogs in our breeding program are exclusive to us, except in a few circumstances where we have sold puppies to top breeders overseas or worked in a close and trusting partnerships where other breeders have used our stud dogs.

We offer $100 rebates for ANKC titles attained throughout the pups’ life - for those interested in a working or performance dog. We are proud to say, as being one of the first breeders in Australia, to start offering rebates on our pups and their achievements in training. Maintaining function of the breed is especially important to us.

We are very particular where we sell our puppies and need to know that owners are committed to training and caring for the pup for its whole life. We encourage our puppy buyers to get involved with their dogs, not only as family pets and companions, but partake in activities that allow the dog to be mentally and physically stimulated, such as obedience, agility, tracking etc. The breed is a working dog and a dog without a purpose or correct pack leadership, can get bored or destructive or develop behavioural issues. Our puppy buyers must be knowledgeable about responsible pet ownership. Please read our Key Points for Raising a Well-adjusted Puppy page.

We are always available to answer any questions you may have, including temperament, health, your puppy’s behaviour and training etc. There is no question too silly, no question too difficult to answer! We do not consider ourselves ‘experts’, but we have a great network of trainers and behaviourists that we have learnt from over the years and seek them out and refer you on.  We endeavour to help you understand more about canine psychology and behaviour, which makes it much easier to train your puppy. This results in a mutually respectful and truly heartfelt companionship between dog and handler.

We absolutely LOVE organising social days and training days for our puppy owners in national parks, reserves and beaches and always include them in our close-knit community of happy and friendly dog owners in the White German Shepherd Dog Alliance of Victoria.  We are very dedicated to our dogs, passionate about our breeding program and will always assist you well after the sale with any questions or problems. We keep in regular contact with all our puppy buyers, most of which end up becoming close friends! Many of our puppy buyers who have met at our social events have become close friends with each other too. It’s heart-warming to see friendly and like-minded people coming together and enjoying each other’s company, whilst enjoying their dogs. A piece of our heart and soul is put into each puppy we breed, so each one is very special to us.
